The NIC Board has set up a special meeting this Thursday, July 14th, to finalize the new president, Nick Swayne’s, contract and purchase property.
There has been a lot of back and forth around the president’s contract and it will be interesting to see what the final contract has to say. Once the contract is approved then we should be able to get the final version. Stay tuned in the days after the meeting for that information.
The other action item on the agenda is to approve the purchase of some property. I am going to assume that is what the Executive Session at 5:30pm is going to be about. Idaho Code § 74-206(1)(a)(c) is specifically about purchasing property:
My interest is piqued about this property because of these emails that were flying around about Nick Swayne:
These emails are between human resources, accounting and the NIC purchasing coordinator. Are these emails about property to be discussed in Executive Session? Is the property going to be listed in the president contract? Are the taxpayers paying for this property? All of these are speculative questions that have no “official” answers, but I am looking forward to Thursday’s meeting hoping for clarification.
In the meantime, human resources has gone around their normal procedures to get Dr. Swayne access to email as soon as possible; the new president has already been involved in meeting donors and stakeholders from around the county even before his contract is finalized and set to begin August 1st. He will continue to meet with NIC groups and other Idaho college presidents over the next couple of months.
