Cities Rally Against County for Delinquent Property Taxes

In the Kootenai County FY23 Budget Public Hearing last week, it was mentioned that the City of Coeur d'Alene sent the county a letter asking the county to NOT keep all the delinquent property tax interest and penalties, and instead divide it up among all the taxing districts.

In the Coeur d'Alene City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 6th, the city administrator said that the city's cut of the delinquent tax interest equates to $70,000. The city is proposing that they take out $24 million in tax dollars from the public, no word on how $70,000 less in their balance sheet will affect their budget.

Below is the full letter from Coeur d'Alene, signed by multiple taxing districts. Download the full pdf here.
